What My Chicks Are Teaching Me About Food Scarcity

Picture
Look at these little fluff balls! We welcomed 4 chicks to our home this week and are so excited to watch them grow into spunky chickens!
As I've been getting acquainted with these little chicks, I've realized they have a lot to teach me about our relationship with food & our body.  I'm also loving that I can now use #chickenlessons on my social media too (if you're not following me, you can find me on Instagram here, and on Facebook here)!
It’s incredible how much love I have for these little fluff balls already. They’re growing so fast, their confidence has increased, and they know the sound of our voices already- and of course it’s so fun to see their unique personalities!

In watching these little ladies explore their home, I’ve noticed something amazing. They have their food dish with openings all around- there are about 10 openings in total, which is more than enough for the 4 of them. However, I’ve noticed if one chick starts to eat out of one food area, the other 3 are right there, trying to eat out of the same opening. They become fixated and obsessed on that same area of food, and are no longer aware of the abundance of food within the other areas.
Fascinating, right?!
And what an incredible illustration of how, when we sense scarcity around food, we want to hoard it or binge it, irrespective of if we are truly hungry or not. These chicks may or may not truly be hungry, but once they see their sister eating, they MUST have the food she is eating.

In these times in which the urges to hoard or binge food are heightened, you may feel like these chicks- having blinders on to the abundance of food that is present in your life, and feeling obsessed about the food you see in front of you.

The good news is that you are fortunate enough to have the ability to gain awareness around our relationship with food! With support and guidance, you can understand your emotional eating triggers and regain that sense of abundance around food and your body. Freedom from food & body obsession is possible!
