What Does It Mean When A Diet Works? What does it mean for a diet to work? Let's explore how, even though we KNOW diets don't work long-term, we still keep coming back for more. It’s a fact that over 95% of diets aren’t effective long-term. Tell me- in what other aspects of your life would you invite in anything that has a 95% failure rate?
Surgery or medical procedure? Nope! A relationship? No thanks! A gamble? Probably not. But to be controlled by restrictions, obsessive about forbidden foods & working out as punishment? We keep coming back for more. The thing is, many of us KNOW that dieting doesn’t work in the long-term. So why do we keep reaching for this toxic old friend? Well, perhaps you don’t know any other way to relate to your body. For a looonnngg time, the only way I knew how to feed my body was based on strict food rules. I also had no idea what hunger or fullness really felt like. It’s also ok to assume that if you were to start down a path of eating intuitively (meaning eating foods based on your body’s cravings & stopping when your body signals towards fullness), that you would eat endless amounts of unhealthy food and never want to move your body. First, I want to acknowledge that all of these fears coming up around honoring your body’s hunger are completely valid! They’re valid because most of us have been taught that the body is the enemy, it’s not to be trusted. But friends, I have some great news. Your body is in fact not the enemy, but is your trusted confidante, your mirror to issues you may be consciously unaware of, and your home. Can you imagine all of the passions you could pursue if you no longer lived in fear of food? In what ways can you look within to start to trust your body again? I invite you to step into your authentic life, feeling at ease & at peace with all foods, so you never have to deal with that 95% failure rate again. |
