Living In Flow: The Menstrual Phase

Picture
It has been so fun to share how to live in flow with your cycles! Today we're ending with the menstrual phase. So often this phase is one that we are taught to dread, however this phase has so much to teach us!
Let's dive in!
To read more about cycle syncing and the other 3 phases of your cycle, check out my blog post here, here & here. These are great places to begin before moving on.
Phase 4 is known as the Menstrual Phase
During the menstrual phase the uterine lining is shed and we experience bleeding. Estrogen increases then drops, preparing for another cycle of ovulation. During this phase you may experience cramping, fatigue, and back pain.

Here are some components that make up the Menstrual phase:

  • This phase is 3-7 days in duration
  • This phase invites us to slow down and reflect inward. The communication between the right and left hemispheres of the brain is at it's most powerful during this phase, which empowers you to evaluate various aspects of your life and identifying areas of your life you would like to change.  Because of this time of reflection, journaling can be a helpful activity during this phase.
  • Your intuition is also very heightened right now so quiet down to tune into what your intuition is trying to tell you. Perhaps you'll begin to notice that you receive the same messages month after month and this will give you guidance on how to proceed.
  • As you are being called to rest & recover during the menstrual phase, your activity levels ask you to slow down. Take time to rest or practice some gentle yoga, in addition to light walking.
  • Your body is experiencing a lot during this phase so it needs lots of nutrients. Choosing foods that have a low glycemic index and are rich in water are great choices. This may include seafood, wild rice, blackberries, blueberries, kale, and watermelon.

Although we may have been taught to despise this phase, when we learn to honor this phase as another guide in our journey towards healing our cycles, we can spend this time reflecting and learning. What have you learned throughout this cycle syncing journey? What do you want to know more about? I'm looking forward to diving deeper into this topic with you!
