Do you weigh yourself? If not, why is this? If you do, how does the number on the scale impact your day? How does it impact your relationship with food and your body? Perhaps it doesn’t impact it at all. As we’re expanding on the concept of living in relationship with food and our body, your actions- like weighing yourself- impact this also. Weighing yourself is not inherently bad or wrong- the key is identifying the reasons behind the behavior Through Mind Body Eating coaching, I support clients in finding the wisdom in their body’s signals, as well as the wisdom in their actions. How are your cravings supporting the life you want to live? And further- how are your actions supporting the life you are meant to live? Can you see how the path to finding peace with your body and food while also obsessing over the number on the scale cannot exist together? It’s not until we release the sense of control we are trying so desperately to hold onto when it comes to our body and food that we can begin to make progress in healing this incredible relationship. Your body is always supporting your highest and greatest good, and your actions either facilitate healing, or they put up roadblocks to the healing process.
I’m not proposing that you never weigh yourself again (although that is an option if you wish!), but perhaps if you are currently weighing yourself every day, a great place to begin is to explore weighing yourself 3 times a week, or once a week. This will most likely also result in feelings of uneasiness, the desire to restrict food, and feeling out of control. All of that is ok and even expected! Invite in everything that may come with this change and observe how this has an impact on your relationship with food and your body. What is your relationship with your scale? I’d love to hear from you! |
