When the mercury rises, so can anxiety about more exposed skin, beach time & bathing suits. Your summer doesn't have to be spent hiding in pants, while being miserable and hot. Let's explore how to embrace and even heal clothing anxiety when the heat is on! I don’t know about you, but I don’t always handle change very well- whether it’s changing seasons or a changing body. I’m finding that after hauling out my summer clothing from last year, quite a few items of clothing no longer fit the body I’m currently inhabiting. We’ve all put on a piece of clothing and allowed it to dictate how we feel about our body (frumpy, gross, depleted). But here’s some great news- clothing doesn’t hold any power over you unless you allow it to. By flipping the switch on clothing and turning towards your body’s wisdom for guidance, you can take your power back. Start by exploring how you want to feel in your body and selecting clothing that will support that feeling. Do you want to feel energized, cool, creative, sexy? What clothing choices can you select to support those feelings? My focus when the heat is on is purely comfort. I want to feel cool and comfortable, so I select clothing options that support those feelings, which ultimately make me feel more comfortable in my skin. It's also not my body's job to fit into clothes, it's the clothing's job to fit my body. When I put on a pair of shorts from last summer that no longer fit, it’s not my body’s job to become smaller to accommodate those shorts. It’s a new pair of short’s responsibility to accommodate my current body shape and size. Your past, current, and future clothing size in no way reflects your worth. It’s simply a tool you can utilize to further explore your relationship with your body during this season.
How beautiful is it that this body, this home, supports you through every season of life?! It doesn’t only support you in fall, winter & spring, only to arrive at summer and leave you to fend for yourself.
