Being anti-diet does not mean I’m anti-health. In fact, diets are inherently anti-health. There’s a massive misconception that being anti-diet means I encourage clients to eat endless amounts of “junk food” day in and day out without moving their bodies. Diets dictate what you do and do not put in your body. They’re anti-health because they teach you to push away the wisdom your body possesses- your inner compass that’s here to guide you towards what it is you’re in need of at any given moment - whether that’s water, carbs, movement, fruit, etc. Diets teach us that your body and your cravings are the enemy; they're not to be trusted. However, your body is always looking out for your highest and greatest good. By turning to an external source to tell you what's best for your body, you're living disconnected from what you're body REALLY needs. Here's a classic example: You're following a diet in which you are to eat limited or no fruit. However, you find that you start craving citrus fruits. You do a good job at following your diet, so you suppress your body's cravings and do not give in and eat the oranges and grapefruits you've started craving. You end up getting a horrible cold that knocks you out for 5 days. While yes, you've stuck with your diet.... you're now sick because you dismissed your body's wisdom that was trying to protect you from this cold. By your body craving those foods rich in Vitamin C, your body was trying to help keep you healthy, but because you were relying on external sources to dictate what your body needed, you ended up feeling miserable. When we listen to & honor our body's cravings, we live in harmony with our body. We start to view the body as our friend, not the enemy. So how do you start turning towards your body instead of another diet? This concept can seem overwhelming if you've never felt that you could truly trust your body.
Do you really want another person telling you what foods are deemed good or bad, or do you want someone to walk you through how to tune into what wisdom your cravings hold? Do you want to pay someone to put you on yet another diet plan, or do you want to work with someone who can open your mind & your eyes to the backwards ways in which diet culture has taught you to hate your body, your sacred home, and then support you in discovering who were always meant to be? What’s more pro-health than tuning into the infinite wisdom within you in this very moment? So yes, I’m anti-diet, and that makes me pro-health.
